I have a fond of remembrance of my early childhood. In those distant years I would look at the trees from a considerable distance, for the simple reason that there were not many trees in close proximity of our house. For frequent bouts of illness my movements were severJoomla! Logoely restricted.I would normally shuttle between my bedroom and the adjacent veranda. There was a lone guava tree close by. An occasional gale would put its leaves to flight and they would take a quiet shelter on my bedroom floor. I would gather these leaves and look at the mixture of green and yellow on them and get enchanted. My father noticed my appreciation and arranged to plant a few grafted guava saplings on earthen pots and placed them on the veranda. I was fortunate to watch the growth of these day after exciting day.

One wonderful morning I went out for a walk with father and saw a bunch of fresh dates which has just grown on the date-palm tree . The golden yellow hue moved my imagination beyond measure . Realising how I reacted to the sight of young dates father got the whole bunch removed from the tree and put in my room . My pastime thereafter was to watch intently these beautiful fruit and notice the daily change of colour .Before my eager/expectant gaze each and every date ripened and changed from golden yellow to deep maroon. This was the time when I learnt my first lessons in colours.

In later life , too ,I got to appreciate the soft gold of the setting sun basically as a reminder of the golden yellow of my early childhood .From that time my first lesson of painting was beginning by the hand of my mother after reading at every night. Father left me some years back. May be that is why colours weave a pattern of sadness in my paintings. May be I am still in search of the golden yellow of my childhood.

My early use of brush and paints was suspended for a time when I went on to take up the job of a Headmistress after taking my MA and B.ED from Calcutta University .But painting holds an irresistible attraction for me. So I have chucked out on teaching-cum-administration and am into painting as a “whole-timer” and joined a very famous group of ladies painter in India . As for my art education I was in a art School in my student life and I have to say many teachers and my uncle have taught me out of love and affection. Thanks to those “teachers”, and from that time I have been painting seriously for over two decades now. All of my paintings (past, present and future) will be dedicated to my father and to my mother.
